Arthur J. Norris was awarded the Military Medal in the London Gazette of 27th November 1916. He had entered France on 20th May 1915, and with the 9th Battalion, he would have served in the front lines from early-mid June. Their 1st Casualties would have been on 17-18th June at Vlamertinghe, relieved on the 26th June and did not see service on the front line again until 27th July 1915 around Zouave Wood, where they fought off a German attack, before fighting off another one on 31st July. They ocontiued to see service in and around the Ypres sector for the remainder of 1915, including taking part in the attack at Bellwarde Farm on 25th August 1915, where having seen some initial success they suffered heavy losses.
