A very rare unit Great War Western Front and Army Meritorious Service Medal group awarded to Acting Warrant Officer 2nd Class sometime Acting Company Sergeant Major W. Bradfield, Army Gymnastics Staff, late Northumberland Fusiliers, who was twice Mentioned in Despatches on 29th May 1917 and again on 24th December 1917, and decorated with the M.S.M in the gazette for 17th June 1918.

William Bradfield came from Norwich, Norfolk, and served during the Great War as an Acting Warrant Officer 2nd Class (No.9540) with the Northumberland Fusiliers, and later saw service towards the end of the war as an Acting Company Sergeant Major (No.137) with the Army Gymnastic Staff, being awarded to this unit, a very rare Army Meritorious Service Medal for ‘devotion’ to duty in France and on the Western Front, the award being published in the London Gazette for 17th June 1918, and was also twice Mentioned in Despatches in the London Gazette for 29th May 1917 and again on 24th December 1917. abrasive bruise to third on the rim at 9 o’clock, otherwise Good very fine
