India General Service Medal 1854, 1 Clasp: Jowaki 1877-8; (312 PTE. ROBT. BLYTHE. 2/9TH FOOT.) Robert Blythe saw service with the 2nd Battalion, 9th (East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot and was present out in India during the operations against the Jowaki Afridis which lasted from 9th November 1877 to 19th January 1878. The Jowakis Afridis who occupied the territory between Peshawar and the Kohat Pass, made continuous attacks on their neighbours. His battalion formatted part of Brigadier General Rosss Force titled the Peshawar Column. He would later see service during the Second Afghanistan War in the fighting around Kabul, and would receive the medal for that campaign. Good Very Fine
