India General Service Medal 1895, clasp Relief of Chitral named to (3670 Pte T. Odell, 1st Bn Bedford Regt). Thomas Odell was born at Hemel Hempstead in the 2nd Quarter of 1871, he was baptised on 14th April 1871. Serving with 1st Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment he would have fought in the Relief Column under the command of General Sir Robert Low which fought its way north through to Chitral via the Malakand Pass. Odell subsequently went on to serve in South Africa, where he was awarded a Queens South Africa Medal with clasp Cape Colony whilst serving as a Private in the 2nd Battalion. On return to the UK on 24th April 1900, he went on to marry Harriet Sears, who was aged just 17 years and 11 months on 16th September 1901, having five children (four of whom survived), before he died in June 1928 in Hemel Hempstead aged 57.
