      Description: Military General Service Medal 1793-1814, 2 Clasps: Vittoria, Pyrenees; (JOHN BROWN, 71ST FOOT). John Brown was born in the parish of Oldcross,Glasgow and enlisted aged 17 into the 71st Highland Regiment on 6th October 1809. During his service of 21 years, 138 days he fought in the Peninsular campaign and in No.4 Company of his Regiment at the Battle of Waterloo on 18th June 1815 and received the medals for both campaigns. On 9th February 1830 he was discharged with a record of Good Conduct but with Asthma and a broken constitution at the age od 38 years. As well as fighting at Waterloo, he had also fought at Quatre Bras the previous day. There is another man of this name in the unit, but he was awarded a medal with six clasps.
