Military General Service Medal 1793-1814, 3 Clasps: Corunna, Busaco, Fuentes DOnor; (ALEXR SCOTT, 79TH FOOT). Noonans online roll states that Alexander Scott was from Cumbernauld, Dumbartonshire and enlisted into 2nd Battalion, 79th Foot on 15th April 1806 for a bounty of £9 18 and transferred to 1st Battalion on 1st April 1807. With his regiment he embarked for service in Spain during April-June 1808 and served in Spain and Portugal invalided home to England in November 1812. He was admitted to Chelsea Hospital on 1st June 1813 after being discharged from the Regiment on 27th May. The cause of discharge being Debility of hands from cold in Spain, and he was granted a pension of 9d per day, later raised to 1/-d. During his service in the Peninsula he had served in Captain Lauries Company and was 27yo upon his discharge. He would receive his pension whilst living in Glasgow District, his trade given as Weaver. He died on 15th September 1854. Previously sold by Hall in 1971 and Bonhams on 28th April 2010. Suspension refixed, with evidence of brooch mounting to obverse and contact wear throughout.. Nearly Fine
