He was however not present in any major action, and died whilst on service out there on 17th October 1849. Punjab Medal 1848-1849, no clasp; (MICHL. GORMAN, 53RD. FOOT.). Michael Gorman saw service as a Private (No.2790) with the 53rd Shropshire Regiment of Foot, and was present out in India and on operations in the Second Sikh War during the Punjab Campaign.
