Fedor Aleksandrovich Gavrilov joined the Red Army on 20th October 1940 and served with the Karelian Front between 1941-1944, a member of the communist party, he had been drafted by the Nikologorsk District Military Commissariat, in the Vladimir Region, and had been wounded once before receiving this Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class in June 1945, the citation for the award was as follows:
‘Guards Lieutenant Gavrilov’s platoon destroyed 9 heavy machine-guns, 2 light machine-guns, 3 mortars with their crews. This enabled advance of our infantry. He is skilled in leading his unit into a battle and has a low rate of casualties. His gun crews can take out the enemy firing positions with the first shot.
He is worthy of medal ‘For Combat Merits’’
Signed by the commander of 355th Guards Rifle Regiment, Guards Lieutenant Colonel Firsov.
This award received a significant upgrade by the Commander of the 106th Guards Rifle Division, Guards Major General Vinduvshev and Gavrilov was to receive the Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class as a result.
Serving as an Artillery platoon commander of the 45mm guns in the 355th Guards Rifle Regiment, 106th Guards Rifle Division at the time of his award, it is unclear whether he was to win any further awards or what became of him after the war.
