Russia – Soviet: A Leningrad Front Order of the Red Star awarded to Senior Lieutenant Ivan Alekseyevich Serov, an Engineer with the Operating and Assembly Section, Engineering Department, Leningrad Front for his excellent work in repair work.

Senior Lieutenant Ivan Alekseyevich Serov was born in Leningrad in 1909, and having initially servd in the Red Army in 1933 and 1934, returned to service on 23rdMarch 1943, it was whilst serving as an Engineer/Mechanic at the Operating and Assembly Section, Engineering Department, Leningrad Front that he was awarded this Order of the Red Star on 30thJune 1945 with the following citation:
‘Lieutenant Sorov was drafted into the Red Army in 1943 as a Reserve Officer (without a rank). He was enrolled in the Leningrad Front’s Rifle and Machine-Gun Course for Junior Lieutenants, which he finished in 1944. While attending this course he underwent on-the-job training as a platoon leader in a frontline unit during the Front’s operation to lift the siege of Leningrad, for which he received a fine evaluation from his commanding officer.
Upon finishing the course he was, in keeping with his primary specialty, appointed commander of an automobile detachment of the Leningrad Front’s Defensive Works Construction Command nr.1, where he co-ordinated the motor pool’s duties superbly, achieving excellent results through his perseverance and painstaking labour. He carried out a number of important operational assignments, delivering engineer equipment to the engineer units at the front line.
Having served in the Front’s Engineer Forces Department since February 1945, he managed to get the repairs of the Engineer units’ transport service vehicles up and running within a short time and raise the motor pool’s technical condition to a high level.
A non-partisan Bolshevik, comrade Serov is dedicated to the Party of Lenin and Stalin and the socialist motherland. He deserves to be awarded the Order of the Red Star.
