Russia – Soviet: A Technician’s Order of the Red Star awarded to Reserve Senior Technical Lieutenant Vadim Nikolayevich Nikiforov, Assistant Chief for technical matters of the 183rdMobile Field Bakery for his part in maintaining his unit’s equipment resulting in successful supply of bread to the troops.

Vadim Nikolayevich Nikiforov was born in the city of Novy Peterhof, Leningrad Oblast in 1914. Having attained an elementary education he was to join the Red army and service between November 1936 and November 1938 before again serving from July 1941 to December 1946.
Acting as a Reserve Senior Technical Lieutenant he was employed as the Assistant Chief for technical matters of the 183rdMobile Field Battery, 19thArmy, in which role he was awarded his only decoration of the war, this Order of the Red Star by order of the 19thArmy on 14thMay 1945, on the back of the following citation:
‘Comrade Senior Technical Lieutenant Nikiforov has been serving as assistant chief for technical matters of the 183rdMobile Field Bakery since September 1942. During his service in this capacity comrade Nikiforov performed major repairs on the following bakery equipment on his own: 4 mobile ovens, 6 electric truck motors, and various other pieces of machinery. He systematically sees to it that all bakery equipment is used properly, thanks to which the troops units and installations were continuously supplied with bread. He routinely concerns himself with improving the proficiency of bakery personnel.
Comrade Nikiforov is an energetic, disciplined, and diligent officer. He is demanding of both himself and his subordinates. He is dedicated to the socialist motherland.
Comrade Nikiforov deserves the Order of the Red Star.’
Nikiforov had seen service with the Karelian Front in the Leningrad area from 17thAugust 1941 and then with the 2ndBelarussian Front from 11thFebruary 1945 including in its assault on East Prussia and part of the supporting attack along the Baltic coast during the Berlin operation.
After the war Nikiforov worked as a Driver at Lenmetrostroi (Leningrad Subway Construction) in Leningrad and was resident at apartment 9, 17 Astrakhanskaya (Astrakhan) Street in Leningrad.
