Victory Medal named to 2950 Private V.J. Austin, 5th London Regiment. Rifleman Vincent John Austin was killed in action on 1st July 1916 (First Day of the Somme Offensive), aged 19. The son of Vincent J. and Rebecca Austin of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, and he is buried in Gommecourt British Cemetery No.2. He is remembered on CWGC with the service number 301922. A copy of Austin’s Medal Index Card included, shows that this is the same name, with both numbers shown on the card. Nearly extremely fine
