A very interesting and unusual Second World War North West Europe, Palestine Jewish Revolt, Cyprus EOKA Emergency, Borneo operations and United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan group to Private J. Driver, Royal West Kent Regiment, later 8th/9th Parachute Battalion, Army Air Corps and Army Catering Corps.

John Driver was born in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, England in April 1927. He enlisted into the British Army on 30th November 1944 as a 17 year old boy soldier in the Royal West Kent Regiment. He transferred to the Parachute Regiment on 5th July 1945 and would have seen some action with the Royal West Kents in North West Europe prior to the end of the war. Post war he served with the 6th Airborne Division in Palestine being present during the Jewish Revolt whilst serving with the 8th/9th Parachute Battalion, Army Air Corps. He would later transfer to the Army Catering Corps with whom he would see service in Cyprus during the EOKA Emergency and later in the operations in Borneo as well as at some point being present with the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan. He later retired from the Army with the rank of Sergeant on 16th April 1967 and emigrated with his family to Perth, Western Australia shortly after. He died in Perth on 11th August 1989.
