A Western Front Distinguished Conduct Medal awarded to Serjeant C.H. Boyle, X35 Trench Mortar Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery who saw service on the Western Front from 17th March 1915 and who was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in the London Gazette of 1st January 1918 for his gallantry in clearing two gun pits and getting the mortars into action again. Distinguished Conduct Medal, GVR, (278158.SJT.C.H.BOYLE.R.G.A) 1914-1915 Star (A-BMBR.C.H.BOYLE.R.G.A) British War Medal and Victory Medal (SR-3158.B.Q.M.SJT.C.H.BOYLE.R.A.) Charles.H.Boyle from Kingston Hill first landed in France 17th March 1915 and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in the London Gazette of 1st January 1918 for services in France whilst attached to X35th trench mortar battery with the following citation. For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty, While firing in support of an infantry attack, his trench mortars were very heavily shelled by the enemy. When two gun pits were blown in he cleared them & got the mortars into action again and continued to fire with the greatest success. He showed splendid coolness & courage on this & many other occasions. He was discharged to the class Z Army Reserve on 3rd March 1919. The 1914-15 star has been gilded / gold plated.
