Orlando Taylor saw service as a Private (No. 4370) with the 10th Hussars in South Africa during the Boer War where he was present on operations in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal. He would later serve in the Great War, by this time as a Private (No. 47106) with the 18th Hussars, seeing service on the Western Front from 16th August 1914.
