He was sadly killed in action in France and Flanders on 27th January 1917, serving with the 1st battalion of the Border Regiment & was 19 years of age at the time of his death. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial & is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of Thomas & Sarah Ann Sayer of Church Hill, Grimston, King's Lynn.
