Great War Memorial Plaque (WILLIAM JAMES MCLAREN HUMBLE) William James McLaren Humble was born at Embelton, Northumberland, the son of William Humble and his mother Mary Ann McLaren who were both also born in Embelton. He attended Embleton School, leaving at 14 and subsequently became a butchers apprentice. William later enlisted in Alnwick, together with his brother John and his friend William Pitt on 11th December 1915, he was initially posted to the Northumberland Fusiliers but eventually transferred to the 21st Battalion, Manchester Regiment. He is noted as having died on 24th October 1917 and is now remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial. (3) EF
