Great War Western Front Officers 1914-1915 Star trio and Second World War service group awarded to Captain J.N.H. Brook, 8th Battalion, Liverpool Regiment Liverpool Irish who later served as an Officer in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War and who died in service whilst playing a cricket match when he was struck by a cricket ball and collapsed and died on 10th June 1942. 1914-1915 Star (2-LIEUT. J.N.H. BROOK. LPOOL REGT.) British War Medal and Victory Medal (CAPT. J.N.H. BROOK) Defence Medal and War Medal. John North Hewlett Brooke was commissioned in to the 8th battalion of the Liverpool Regiment / Liverpool Irish in 1914 & first landed in France with the battalion 1-5-1915. He went on to serve with the M.G.C prior to his transfer to the RFC in 1917. He became a member of the R.A.F on its formation in April 1918 & relinquished his commission in 1921. He was recalled from the reserve on the outbreak of war & on the 10th of June 1942 he was hit by a cricket ball whilst playing a match & collapsed & died. Sqn Leader brook was 45 years of age at the time of his death & is buried in Haresfield (St.Peters) churchyard. He was a resident of Fareham, Hampshire & was survived by both his wife & his parents.
