HIGHRS:) Reid was a member of the Volunteer Company who arrived in Cape Town on March 15th then joining the 1st Battalion, he would have been present at the Battles of Belfast and Johannesburg, in 1900, leaving South Africa on 13th April 1901, the British captured Bloemfontein in March 1900 and later captured Johannesburg in May and Pretoria in June. The Battle of Bergendal, which lasted from August 21 to August 27, involved British forces attacking Boer positions covering the Delagoa Bay Railway, describing a frontal attack carried out by the 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders.
