Russia – Soviet: A Liberation of Latvia Supply Officer’s Order of the Red Star awarded to Captain of the Quartermaster Service Aleksandr Yevyenyevich Stabrovsky, the Assistant Commander of Supplies of the 508th Antiaircraft Artillery Regiment, 44th Antiaircraft Artillery Division, through his tireless efforts his Regiment shot down 9 enemy aircraft, and destroyed a Self-Propelled Gun, an Anti-Tank Gun, 2 Armoured Personnel Carriers and 10 machine-guns along with their crews.

Order of the Red Star, type 2, numbered 1934301

      Condition: Good very fine

Aleksandr Yevgenyevich Stabrovsky was born in the city of Leningrad in 1909, and served with the Red Army from 1941 becoming a member of the communist party in 1942.

This Order of the Red Star issued by Order of the 42nd Army on 21st May 1945 was Stabrovsky’s sole decoration awarded to him whilst employed as the Assistant Commander for Supplies of the 508th Antiaircraft Artillery Regiment and in the rank of Captain of the Quartermaster Service. The recommendation for his award was as follows:

‘During the fighting with the German-Fascist invaders he displayed fine organizational skills in leading the various services and showed unconditional dedication to the Party of Lenin and Stalin and the socialist motherland.

During the offensive operations of July and August 1944, the liberation of Soviet Latvia, and the subsequent operations, the regiment lacked a chief of the Food Supply Service and a chief of the Clothing Supply Service. Nevertheless, owing to the exceptional way in which the services were organised and the skilful way in which they were led, the regiment was supplied with foodstuffs, uniform items, and all other necessities in a timely and uninterrupted manner, even though they were disconnected from the supply bases and despite the absence of service chiefs and a shortage of transport vehicles. This enabled the regiment to successful carry out its combat missions. Through daily inspections and proper decision making, during which he showed fatherly concern for the men’s everyday life and needs, he was able to provide the, with winter uniforms in a timely manner and all throughout he arranged for worn clothing to be repaired, for which he enjoys recognition among the men.

Through his energetic and tireless efforts he facilitated mission accomplishment. During his time in his current capacity, the regiment shot down 9 enemy aircraft and destroyed a self-propelled gun, an antitank gun, 2 armoured personnel carriers, and 10 machine guns and their crews.’

He deserves to be awarded the Order of the Red Star.’

Alongside this Order of the Red Star, he was to receive the Medal for Victory over Germany. In September 1946 he still serving in the Red Army as the Assistant Commander for Supplies of the 848th Independent Antiaircraft Artillery, 2nd Guards Rifle Corps whilst being noted as a resident of Apartment 2, 50 Troitskaya (Trinity) Street, Leningrad.
